4th of July

For the Forth of July this year, we decided to go to the nations capitol! I had only been to the monuments in Washington D.C. once back when I was a student at SVU and all the monuments I got to see was from the passenger seat of a car. Before we moved I really wanted to go to DC and actually see the monuments.

Our day started off bright and early as we decided to first go and see the National's play baseball first. Since we knew traffic was going to be crazy we decided park the car outside of DC and take the subway in. It really was quite a pleasant ride.

 Maia telling Paige a secret.

 The Washington Nationals.

During the seventh inning stretch we got to hear Neal Diamond sing a patriotic song.

Sean is so good with Maia. I couldn't believe she actually slept during the game.

 Our really cute child!

Learning about baseball. We start 'em young in this family.

 Little family picture.
 The USA archives.
We went into the American History Smithsonian and it was pretty cool to see all that was in there. It also was a great escape from the heat!
Of course we find the baseballs in the museum.

 Sean and Ty hanging out.

The National Monument. I have really good luck with going to see statues or monuments and they are covered in scaffolding. One of the problems with going to DC on the 4th is that they fence every thing in. Many of the monuments we couldn't even go to because of all the fencing.
Maia spent a lot of time in her stroller but she didn't seam to complain too much.

 There were so many people!
We couldn't get into the world war II memorial and I didn't think we would be able to see the Lincoln Memorial.
Luckily I have an amazing husband who walked all the way around the fencing with me so we could go see the Lincoln Memorial. This is one that I have wanted to see my whole life.

Look at all those people ...

This was as close as we could get to the White House.

We tried to make it back to where our friends were sitting to watch the fireworks but ended up not making it so we stopped along our way to watch them.

This was Maia throughout all the fireworks. She ended up waking up about 15 min after the fireworks ended.

After the Fireworks were done we headed to the subway and we smashed in with thousands of other people wanting to get onto the subway as well. Once we got down into the subway we went to the far end where there weren't a ton of people and we got to sit when we got onto the subway.  The ride probably took about 30 minuets to get back to our car, which wasn't to bad.

When we got to the car we were all a bit exhausted. It was such a good day and I'm glad for the friends we had with us and for the opportunity to celebrate this country in our Nations Capital.
